Nursing (RN) Career Pathway
The Registered Nursing (RN) Program at Greenville Technical College is a highly successful program that is dedicated to the preparation of individuals to meet the health care needs of the public. Graduate nurses will be able to use essential knowledge, attitudes, skills, and technology to meet the healthcare needs of patients, families, and communities. Graduates of this program are eligible to complete the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN® exam) to earn a license to practice as a registered nurse. Graduates will be well prepared for a professional nursing career in a variety of hospital and community-based health care settings. The Nursing program is credentialed through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

By taking these courses in high school, students will satisfy some of the requirements necessary to complete an application to the GTC health science programs.
Eligible students:
Available to students in 11th and 12th grade.
Recommended courses:
Complete Pre-Nursing Courses that are required prior to applying to the Nursing program. (Must earn a C or greater.)
- MAT 120 Probability and Statistics
- BOI 210 Anatomy & Physiology
- PSY 201 General Psychology
- ENG 101 English Composition
Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test. (Must earn a minimum score of 65.)
Complete the Nursing Career Talk session. This presentation outlines every step of the process for applying and being accepted to the nursing program.

When:
Pre-requisite courses are offered through Early College in the morning/afternoon, Monday through Thursday, in online or in-person format.
Where:
High school students take dual enrollment classes at Greenville Technical College.
Result:
High School graduation + course credit and points on nursing weighted admissions
AFTER HIGH SCHOOL
After high school (or the admission cycle in the spring they graduate), a student may apply for Nursing program admission. Nursing Program applicants may apply no earlier than the March/May application cycle immediately prior to earning a high school diploma.
If admitted, the student will transition into Phase I of the Nursing Program at Greenville Technical College. Once admitted, degree completion requires 24 consecutive months of enrollment.
Recommended courses:
Admitted students complete nursing courses sequentially every seven weeks over a two-year enrollment period. The program is divided into four phases that include:
- Phase I: BIO 211, NUR 139, NUR 141, NUR 143, NUR 144
- Phase II: BIO 225, NUR 145, NUR 146, NUR 156
- Phase III: SPC 205, NUR 239, NUR 241, NUR 243
- Phase IV: NUR 253, NUR 256

Result:
Graduates are awarded an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing degree and are endorsed to take the NCLEX exam. Graduates are eligible to apply for admission to an RN to BSN degree program.
